Greater Syracuse Works

Greater Syracuse Works (GSW) is a collaborative association of community organizations and agencies involved in employment and training activities with persons who are disadvantaged.  GSW activities include focusing on community policy and practices that will improve the lives of Syracuse residents, developing opportunities to link member organizations with new and emerging employment services and inititatives, and managing projects that provide high-quality outcomes for individuals served through its member agencies and linking with other community entities to ensure a seamless delivery system.

    April 23rd, 2010: EPA, Region 2,  Environmental Quality Award for "Greening Syracuse;s Combiined Sewer Overflow Long Term Control Plan" was presented to The Partnership for Onondaga Creek, Atlantic States Legal Foundation, The onondaga Nation, and County Executive Joanne Mahoney.

Creating and Nourishing Environmental Justice Activists

In June, besides coordinationg a GPS Treasure Hunt with SU's community geographer, the POC worked out the transportation for 10 Syracuse teenagers to NYSDEC's Pack Forest Camp.  The POC sponsored these 10 youth, and in so doing got them a free week of environamental education and fun in the Adirondacks.  Five will be going July 11 and another five August 1.
